Moon Unit Zappa was born in New York City on 28th September 1967. The eldest child of Gail and Frank, she came to public prominence in 1982 when she appeared on her father’s hit single Valley Girl from his album Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch.
   Her voice can also be heard on his albums You Are What You Is (1981), Them Or Us (1984), Frank Zappa Meets The Mothers Of Prevention (1985), Civilization Phaze III (1994), Feeding The Monkies At Ma Maison (2011) and Joe's Camouflage (2014).
    In the mid-1980s, Moon and her brother Dweezil were frequent guest VJs on MTV. She also sang on Dweezil's 1982 single My Mother Is A Space Cadet, as well as Let's Talk About It from his 1986 album Havin' A Bad Day.
   As a teenager, Moon acted in the television series CHiPs. As an adult, she has worked as a stand-up comic and actress, appearing together with Dweezil in the film National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985) and the television sitcom Normal Life (1990).
   Moon has also appeared on TV in Roseanne (1996) and Curb Your Enthusiasm (2004).
   She is the author of the novel America, the Beautiful (2001) and has written for The New York Times.
   Moon married Paul Doucette of the American pop group Matchbox Twenty in June 2002. They have one child together, Mathilda Plum Doucette, born on 21 December 2004. They divorced in 2014.
   In 2016, Moon said she was working on a book about growing up in her “crazy house”.
   She was scheduled to attend Zappanale in 2017, but had to postpone due to Mathilda having to enrol in a new school during the week of the festival. Instead, Moon submitted to a Q&A session via Skype.
